Add Victorian style and elegance to any nightgown, shirt or other garment using this vintage pattern to handcraft enchanting, delicate collars.

This pattern is a rework of the crochet pattern for the chemise collar illustrated in Figure 286 in the Beeton’s Book of Needlework by Isabella Beeton from 1870, which is a public domain work. I have translated this pattern into American crochet terminology (the original used UK terminology), and and I rewrote it during the process of thorough testing, using modern crochet instructions and pattern formatting, as well as correcting errors and omissions, providing clarifications and making adjustments as necessary. All of this in order to make the pattern easier for modern crocheters to understand, so that they may create this exquisite vintage edging themselves and help ensure that this pattern lives on.

*NOTE: This was originally meant to be a collar around a chemise, but can also be used as a collar on a nightgown or shirt. You can also simply work Strip 1, working the border on both sides, if you wish to use this as a single, straight border along the bottom of a dress, tablecloth or other project.
