Transform your garments with these intricately designed manchettes, inspired by Victorian elegance. This manchette pattern offers delicate detail and timeless charm, perfect for enhancing shirts, blouses and dresses with handcrafted sophistication. Whether for special occasions, costumes for historic fairs or everyday wear, these vintage-inspired embellishments provide a refined finishing touch that elevates your style and preserves the tradition of historic crochet.
This pattern is a rework of the crochet pattern for the manchette (undersleeve) illustrated in The Crochet Book, by Elenor Riego de la Branchardiere, published in 1847, which is a public domain work. I have translated this pattern into American crochet terminology (the original used UK terminology), and I rewrote it during the process of thorough testing, using modern crochet instructions and pattern formatting, as well as correcting errors and omissions, providing clarifications and making adjustments as necessary. All of this in order to make the pattern easier for modern crocheters to understand, so that they may create this exquisite vintage manchette themselves and help ensure that this pattern lives on.
