For all you crochet enthusiasts that are looking for a completely unique project to work on, I have just the thing for you – Manchettes! 😊
I just added two new patterns for these exciting vintage wardrobe accessories, which are very easy to work up. So, whether you’re looking for a quick project or simply one that is completely out of the ordinary, these might be just what you’re after!
Don’t know what a manchette is? See the VCE blog post, The Manchette: Definition and a Very Brief History.
The Patterns
Pattern 1: The 1850 Riego CB Manchette 1
For those who prefer bold textures, this slightly thicker manchette offers a cozy, statement-making accessory. It is worked with a slightly bulkier thread for warmth and thickness, making it ideal for fall and winter outfits, although it can easily be made with finer thread for a more delicate look as well.
Pattern 2: The 1850 Riego CB Manchette 2
This pattern draws inspiration from classic lacework, featuring delicate openwork stitches that create a light, airy fabric. This vintage manchette is perfect for those who love intricate details and timeless designs. It would be just as much a perfect compliment to a bohemian outfit as it would a historical costume or Victorian period-inspired dress.
How to Care for Your Crochet Manchettes
Proper care will keep your handmade manchettes looking their best:
· Hand wash in cool water with mild detergent to avoid stretching or felting.
· Lay flat to dry on a towel, reshaping gently if needed.
· Store flat or rolled to prevent creases or distortion.
· Avoid exposure to harsh sunlight for extended periods to preserve color.
These two new manchette crochet patterns offer distinct styles that cater to different tastes and seasons, but both are fun projects that showcase and celebrate the art of crochet.
So, if you’re ready to try something completely fresh and out of the ordinary, why not try one of these new patterns? If you do, feel free to share your finished manchettes and your experiences working with the pattern with your fellow crocheters on our Community Chat page, in the comments section under this post, or privately in an email to me if you prefer. I would love to hear from you either way!
Happy crocheting!
